Let's start with a little bit about the space available for the garden. There's not a whole lot.
The house was built in the 1950's and the back yard has many mature trees and very little sun. This makes it pretty much unusable space for a garden that likes lots of sun. Neither side yard can be used due to walkways and small lot lines.
This leaves the front yard. There's not a whole lot of room there either, but we are making the best with what we have. The front yard gets full sun which is perfect for a garden. The picture above shows the flower bed on the let sid of the front door after I cleaned it out, well sort of.
